Full brother to triple crown champion among stallions on offer at Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale
Winter Storm Blair wreaked havoc across much of Kentucky this week, leaving icicles and broken tree limbs scattered over the bluegrass. Yet, the show goes on at Keeneland Sales with the three-day 2025 January Horses of All Ages Sale.
Among the broodmare offerings are a spattering of stallions and stallion prospects, including St. Patrick’s Day-- a winning group III placed full brother to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. A full brother to an American Triple Crown winner has not been sold at public auction in well over 80 years. Buyers have, quite literally, a once in a century opportunity to tap into the blood of one of the most storied families of contemporary racing.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, St. Patrick’s Day stood four seasons at Journeyman Stud in Florida. With two crops of racing age--not counting his newly turned 2-year-olds-- he has 53 runners, over half of which have won. His blacktype runners include GII Davona Dale winner Fiona’s Magic.
St. Patrick’s Day is hip 1318 and will sell on the final day of the January Horses of All Ages Sale on Jan. 15.
The other established stallion consigned is GI winner True Timber. Offered by Buckland Sales, True Timber (Mineshaft) entered stud for race owners Calumet Farm in 2022. True Timber bred just two mares in 2022, resulting in one foal. Two 2023 breedings saw no foals. He bred one mare for a 2025 foaling.
While unpopular at stud, True Timber boasts a strong race record. A grade I winner of the Cigar Mile in his career finale at 6, he placed in eight graded stakes and was a winner as a 2-year-old. Most of his success was found as a sprinter or shorter route races.
True Timber is by horse of the year Mineshaft and out of an unraced Tiznow mare. He hails from the family of French group I winners Regal State and Seven Springs. Regal State is the dam of multiple grade I winner Pleasantly Perfect, while Seven Springs produced European Champion 3-year-old and sire Distant View.
Nine racing or stallion prospects remain in the Horses of All Ages Sale, by stallions like perennial leading sire Into Mischief, Uncle Mo and Pioneerof the Nile.
Into Mischief has two representatives consigned, both for ELiTE, Agent. Hip 1284 is 5-year-old Clare Quality. Clare Quality was twice placed in his two Aqueduct maiden special weights during spring 2024. He posted two Beyers in the 70s for his efforts. Clare Quality is a half brother to stakes winner Salmanazar.
A few hips later in the sale is the other Into Mischief representative hip 1290 Saint Gaudens. Saint Gaudens is a winning 4-year-old New York-bred who ran a 73 beyer for his maiden romp in Feb. 2024. Saint Gaudens is out of multiple grade I winning mare Artemis Agrotera, making him a half brother to stakes winner Chestertown. Chestertown sold for 2 million dollars at the 2019 OBS March 2-year-olds in Training Sale.
The final raced stallion prospect offering is the 8-year-old Pioneerof the Nile son Anaconda. In 21 career starts Anaconda won five races, including the 2023 Elusive Quality Stakes over seven furlongs on grass by a nose. Anaconda is a half sibling to Grade I-placed Stellar Agent. Anaconda is cataloged as hip 457.
The remaining racing or stallion prospects are unraced 2- or 3-year-olds.
The Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale begins on Monday, Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. Offerings may be previewed at the Keeneland Sales barns from Jan 11-12.
